Freedom West 50th Anniversary Event
first public show of Archive photos

This video shares highlights from 50th anniversary celebration of Freedom West Homes. The event recognized the families and community leaders who made the original vision and mission of Freedom West possible 50 years ago! Founded in 1973 in the wake of Urban Renewal, Freedom West was created to provide safe, affordable housing for low-income families of color returning to the Fillmore / Western Addition neighborhood. Using a co-op ownership model to enable housing stability, as well as educational and career support, for under-served populations to build multi-generational wealth in a high-cost high-opportunity city. Now 50 years since its founding, Freedom West celebrates the residents, community, government, and development partners who are working together to revitalize Freedom West and set it on a firm pathway to economic self-sustainability for the next 100 years!
